"Body Problem", 2026Reflective of the title, this painting reflects the problem of living in a body constantly torn apart, being self to standards it can not adhere to. Floods of flesh take up the right third of the canvas, rolls of ‘excess’ picked apart and pieced together on the canvas, reflecting the parts of the artist that she would rather hide. The feet and legs contain these folds of flesh, controlling the composition.
From this piece the artist has become interested in the anatomy of painting, how paint can be handled and layered to create texture and promote a sense of internal juxtaposition within a piece. The legs and feet are loosely painted, revealing the underpainting, separating them from the collaged section. The artist is intrigued with the level of raw intimacy that comes with displaying feet, the secrecy surrounding them, and the vulnerability that comes with revealing them.
