"Belly", 2025
This diptych displays the same figure slightly mirrored, from a high to low perspective, grabbing her stomach. It presents a discomfort between the woman and her body, as she glares upon the audience, perhaps casting blame.
Painted on found material, the delicacy of the sheer fabric provides a material juxtaposition to the almost violent atmosphere created by the figure. The curtain has intricate stitches on both sides, reflecting an element of craft, historically rooted in femininity. It also allows the artist to move into elements of expanded painting. Hung by yarn, the atypical canvas invades the audiences space, exaggerating the line of questioning between the figure and the viewer.
The gouache leaks through the material, reflecting the leaky nature of the body, calling upon the abject.
Underprints
Initially accidental, these pieces were made by laying upper under the sheer material. The visceral texture and less defined nature of these pieces, provides a more ambiguous response, once again reflecting the leaky nature of the female body. The artist has made a collection of these pieces, collectively titled “With What Remains”
